Sailboats in Boston Harbor

"Reflections on the water, Shadows on the Bow - Boston Harbor" (11"X14", Oil on Canvas, $325)

This small painting is a close-up of the background boat appears in the previous post. I liked the view of this outermost boat, as it was a contrast to the overlapping of boats seen in that other painting. The sailor has already left. The same feeling of sunset is here, as well as the view of East Boston in the background. The setting sun glows on the puffy clouds overhead and puts a similar glow into the haze on the horizon. It also turns the shock-white hull of the boat a rather peachy color, which is reflected more deeply in the rippling water below. The shadow of the mainsail cover and rigging of the boat on its right casts a pale blue shadow which echoes the green cover on this boat's mainsail. All the boats in the background are parked a their moorings with their sails likewise struck. This is the way the boat will be found in the morning, when the sailor returns. The only difference will be that the boat is in silhouette as the sun rises over Eastie, ready for another day.
