Sailboats in Boston Harbor

"Sailing Class, Prepping the Jib and Boom - Boston Harbor" (16"X12", Oil on Canvas, $450)

This painting shows a cropped and closer view of the scene unfolding in the previous post. In this one, they haven't gotten to raising the mainsail yet. They're still getting the boom ready as Norm stands steady on the stern, confident enough to have the tip of the boom resting on the deck between his feet, while holding on to nothing with his hands. He's giving instructions but not lending any help so that his students can learn by actually doing. The jib is connected to its guideline, but is waiting for the mainsail to rise, as is also seen in the previous post. The choppiness of the water is here, too, as well as the skudding clouds in the sky.
I liked the colors I saw in this scene: the bright yellow hull of the sailboat in the dark blue water is hinted at in the clouds overhead. This ties the painting together and warms up an otherwise chilly and windy summer day of instruction on Boston Harbor.
